Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Fresh ceasefire violations were reported along the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday evening as Pakistani forces launched heavy shelling and unprovoked firing at Indian forward positions in the Digwar and Karmada sectors of Poonch and Uri in Baramulla district. As shelling goes on in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, blackouts have been enforced in Jammu city and Baramulla. Sirens were sounded in several border villages, and Indian forces immediately responded with calibrated retaliatory fire.
Earlier in the day, the Indian Army confirmed that Pakistani troops had resumed ceasefire violations in Kupwara’s Karnah and Tangdhar sectors during the early morning hours. The Army stated, “A befitting reply was given, and civilian safety was ensured.” These developments followed overnight coordinated attacks involving drones and missiles launched by Pakistan across multiple Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, on the night of May 8 and 9. Indian air defence systems were activated, and blackouts were imposed in sensitive locations to neutralise incoming threats.
In an official briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi stated that the Pakistani Army violated Indian airspace multiple times during the night of May 7 and 8, aiming to target military infrastructure along the western border. She added, “The Pakistani army also fired heavy calibre weapons along the Line of Control.” These actions were accompanied by the firing of drones and missiles directed at 15 Indian cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Bhuj, with Indian defences successfully intercepting the attacks.
India responded with precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These strikes were carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. The Army confirmed the elimination of at least 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four of his aides. The situation across the LoC remains tense but under control, with the Indian Army maintaining a high level of operational readiness.
